Poetry didn’t die with the Victorians! Even in 2026, it can be a great way to express yourself, share ideas – and even become a TikTok star. In this fun 90-minute workshop for writers aged 12 to 17, we’ll explore different forms of poetry, creating your own haikus, blackout poems, and more.  

This workshop is part of Colchester Library’s autumn creative writing programme for young writers. This series of workshops for writers aged 7 to 11 and 12 to 17 takes a fun, hands-on approach, led by creative writing tutor Daisy Jones.  

Each session stands alone, so you can come to just one, or as many as you like. All materials are provided and no previous writing experience is required – just bring your imagination! All workshops are free, but places are limited and booking is essential.
